Where Did You See God?

(completed as a family)

Living the Lesson for April: Where did you see God?

Family Project for Students in Grades 1 - 10

Credits: 2

The lesson this month is pretty simple; it’s a an act and a thought! Spend time this month, as a family, talking about where you are seeing God. Yes, we see God at church, especially in the Eucharist, which is the true presence of Christ (His Body and Blood). But do we think about how God is everywhere, in every moment? So, this month, do something as a family that brings you happiness and joy and talk about how God is there! How do we know He is? What does Scripture tell us about that? What do the saints and/or Church teaching teach us about that? Spend time together discussing those things!

Here are some examples:

·       I (Mrs. Mackey) collected and carried over 625 gallons of maple sap from our maple trees on our property and my husband boiled it down to maple syrup. I couldn’t help but think about one of the themes of Catholic Social Teaching: Care for Creation. God provided us with that sap and we used that to provide that sugary goodness for our Palm Sunday Pancake Breakfast! That brought much satisfaction and joy to us! And it is our desire and duty to properly care for our property so that we, and others, can reap the benefits of what God has bestowed upon us.

·       I (Mrs. Mackey) went to Florida for the weekend with my daughter and was able to visit my niece and her daughter. It brought us such joy to have a girls’ weekend and to reconnect in a calm, relaxing environment. Each of us felt loved, cared for and heard and we were able to minister to each other’s needs. It was great to give each other undivided attention. “Train children in the way they should go; when they grow old, they won’t depart from it.”- Proverbs 22:6. “But if someone doesn’t provide for their own family, and especially for a member of their household, they have denied the faith. They are worse than those who have no faith.”- Timothy 5:8. “We love because God first loved us.”- 1 John 4:19

·       While in Florida, we encountered a server in a restaurant who had such a genuine smile on her face and treated us with so much respect and kindness. My daughter and I decided to leave her a 90% tip. We hope that because she brought us joy, we could bring her joy, as well. “Charity is a virtue which, when our affections are perfectly ordered, unites us to God, for by it we love him.”- St. Augustine.

These acts are small but significant and God is present in each and every one of them! Where have you seen Him? Spend 2 hours finding God in the ordinary, making the ordinary holy! It can be anything, because all that is good comes from God! Tell Mrs. Mackey about it by May 7!
